Marguzor Lakes, Seven Beauties of Shinga

Haftkul (Marguzor Lakes, Seven Beauties of Shinga) is a unique complex of seven lakes (“haft” - seven, “kul” - lake) with crystal-turquoise water in the Zeravshan Valley in northern Tajikistan. The lakes are located at the foot of the Fan Mountains. They cascade along the Shing River valley. The lower lake is located at an altitude of 1598 meters above sea level, and the highest is at an altitude of 2400 meters. Formed as a result of the movement of the glacier, the lakes from a geological point of view are a vivid example of a moraine relief, and from an aesthetic point of view they are a wonderful, amazing, spectacular landscape. The water in Haftkul has a bright turquoise color due to the mineral salts dissolved in it. The secret of these lakes lies in their legends. According to folklore, the blacksmith once lived in the valley with seven beautiful daughters. One day the local governor saw the youngest daughter of a blacksmith and immediately fell in love with her. The father agreed to marry his daughter to him, but she did not want to marry the old governor. The smart girl resorted to a trick and insisted that she would only marry if the governor had built her a fantastic golden palace. The girl was sure that he would not be able to do this, but, inspired by love, the old man worked a miracle and built himself a palace in 40 days. Realizing that her fate was decided, on her wedding day, the young beauty threw herself down from the roof of the palace in her wedding dress. In this place, Lake Mizhgon appeared, and other lakes were formed from the tears of her sisters.

Lake Mizhgon stands out in this respect, its waters remain clean and bright even when mixed with the water of the Shing River.
