Nurek reservoir
Nurek reservoir (taj. Obanbori Norak) is an artificial reservoir created on the Vakhsh river, within the Nurek region of Tajikistan. Formed in front of the dam of the Nurek hydroelectric power station. The reservoir was filled in 1972. The area of the water surface is 98 km², the volume of the reservoir is 10.5 km³ (useful volume - 4.5 km³), length - 70 km, width - 1 km. The average depth of the reservoir is 107 m. The level of the reservoir varies within 53 m. It regulates the flow of the Vakhsh River seasonally. It is used for irrigation of 1 million hectares of fertile lands of the Karshi and Kzyl-Kum steppes, the Dangara plateau and other territories. Navigation is carried out on the reservoir. Water is discharged through a 5 km long tunnel dug into the rock. The city of Nurek is located at the dam.
